Please find my answer and document for option 1 below. Option 2 you may follow the steps from the link i provided.
1. Pros & cons for each option
Option 1:
Pros: Can free up most of the disk space
Cons: Need another backup server to keep the log. If no need to keep the log, which does not have this problem.
Option 2:
Pros: No need backup server to keep the log.
Cons: Log file will be truncated, those truncated log will be missing.
2. Impact (application impact, business impact & impact to other system)
No impact to the system. Only will improve the database performance.
3. Is application is using the ldf file?
Application will not use the ldf file.
4. Once ldf file being shrink is there any issue for db to read/write to tle ldf file?
The ldf file will auto generated by db if the ldf file is not there.
5. Is there any possibility ldf file being corrupted?
No
6. What is the fallback plan?
Just copy the ldf file back to the folder.
